A Korea budget becomes useful when you can see the room, meals and journeys behind the total. Start with Seoul, decide who is traveling, and choose the comfort you actually want. The nine examples below compare solo trips, couples sharing a room, and two adults with children aged seven and ten.
01
Start with the whole-trip figure
Use these totals to set a spending envelope, then replace the room allowance with a booking price for your dates. Couple and family totals are combined, not per person. Seven days means six hotel nights; ten days means nine. Food and local transport are allowed for every travel day, including arrival and departure.
Official published fares, ticket prices and hostel tariffs were checked on October 5, 2026. The nine budgets are worked planning examples, not measured averages or live hotel quotes. Midrange and luxury accommodation, meals, data and private transfers use chosen allowances. The older food benchmark below is dated explicitly. Use the published tariffs as reference points and replace the allowances with the prices you are offered for your dates.
The 10-day examples keep the same nightly and daily allowances, scale activities and small extras by 10/7, and retain one return airport transfer. Each total includes a 10% contingency. Expensive shopping, a concert or several fine-dining reservations need their own lines.
| Travelers | Style | 7 days / 6 nights | 10 days / 9 nights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo | Budget | ₩871,200 | ₩1,270,500 |
| Midrange | ₩1,928,300 | ₩2,823,544 | |
| Luxury | ₩7,271,000 | ₩10,575,715 | |
| Couple | Budget | ₩1,445,400 | ₩2,095,500 |
| Midrange | ₩2,901,800 | ₩4,217,086 | |
| Luxury | ₩9,966,000 | ₩14,472,857 | |
| 2 adults + 2 children | Budget | ₩2,030,600 | ₩2,933,858 |
| Midrange | ₩4,691,500 | ₩6,810,572 | |
| Luxury | ₩15,818,000 | ₩23,068,571 |
02
What each travel style buys
Budget means straightforward accommodation, local meals, public transport and plenty of free walks. Our solo budget uses a private hostel room rather than the cheapest dorm bed, while the family budget assumes a room legally accepting all four guests. You can spend less with a suitable dorm or self-catering, but that is a different trip.
Midrange means a private hotel room, more choice at mealtimes, café stops, occasional taxis and selected paid attractions. It is a useful starting point if you want comfort without organizing your entire day around the lowest price.
Luxury means an upscale room, a larger dining allowance, frequent taxis and paid experiences. It does not mean unlimited spending. Signature suites, premium shopping, daily chauffeured touring and fine dining every evening can exceed the examples quickly. You can also mix styles: keep the room modest and spend on food, or book a luxury hotel and eat local lunches.

Current price anchors in Seoul
These are published prices checked on October 5, 2026, except the clearly dated food benchmark. They give the budget a foundation without pretending that hotel prices or every restaurant menu stay fixed.
A registered child-fare transport card matters for the family. Ask a staffed retailer to set the correct birth date when purchasing the card; the adult card price is not a family-wide fare. Distance supplements can apply, and taxi fares include more than the initial charge.
The hostel publishes adult room tariffs with VAT included, plus a 20% weekend uplift and a 30% peak-season uplift. Confirm which uplift applies to your dates, room eligibility and the final booking total. Its four-person Family Plus has a double bed and a bunk bed.
| Item | Published amount | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Seoul subway, adult | ₩1,550 | Transport-card base fare, first 10 km; supplements apply |
| Seoul subway, child | ₩550 | Child base fare; use the appropriate registered card |
| Seoul standard taxi | ₩4,800 | Daytime starting fare for 1.6 km, not a typical complete ride |
| Airport bus 6002 | ₩17,000 | Published per-person one-way fare; verify child fare separately |
| Hi Seoul Youth Hostel single | ₩59,400 | Adult base tariff per room per night; VAT included |
| Hi Seoul Youth Hostel twin | ₩85,800 | Adult base tariff per room per night; VAT included |
| Hi Seoul Youth Hostel Family Plus | ₩105,600 | Adult base tariff, standard occupancy four; VAT included |
| Lotte World Universal Pass | Adult ₩67,000; child ₩50,000 | One day, Adventure + Folk Museum; paid games excluded |
| Gimbap, Seoul survey benchmark | ₩3,838 | June 2026 mean reported by the ministry in August; not a current shop quote |

A solo trip: one room, one appetite
Traveling alone is flexible, but a private room is yours to pay for in full. The budget example sets aside ₩75,000 a night, above the hostel's published weekday single tariff to leave room for weekend pricing. Food and drinks get ₩30,000 a day, local transport ₩6,000, and activities ₩30,000 across the week. This is a trip built around local meals and free exploring, not a theme park every day.
The midrange example puts ₩180,000 a night toward a hotel room and ₩55,000 a day toward eating and drinking. The luxury example uses ₩700,000 a night and ₩180,000 a day for dining. Those room figures are chosen budget inputs, not verified availability at a named hotel. Enter your actual rate in the calculator.
The budget airport allowance assumes low-cost rail rather than the Express train or a private car. The midrange allowance uses two ₩17,000 bus journeys. Luxury includes a ₩300,000 return-transfer allowance; obtain a quote with tolls, waiting and vehicle type before treating it as a price.
| Expense | Budget | Midrange | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accommodation per night, all rooms | ₩75,000 | ₩180,000 | ₩700,000 |
| Accommodation, 6 nights | ₩450,000 | ₩1,080,000 | ₩4,200,000 |
| Food and drinks, 7 days | ₩210,000 | ₩385,000 | ₩1,260,000 |
| Local transport, 7 days | ₩42,000 | ₩84,000 | ₩420,000 |
| Activities, entire trip | ₩30,000 | ₩120,000 | ₩350,000 |
| Airport transfers, return included | ₩20,000 | ₩34,000 | ₩300,000 |
| Data, laundry and small extras | ₩40,000 | ₩50,000 | ₩80,000 |
| Subtotal | ₩792,000 | ₩1,753,000 | ₩6,610,000 |
| 10% contingency | ₩79,200 | ₩175,300 | ₩661,000 |
| Total for the party | ₩871,200 | ₩1,928,300 | ₩7,271,000 |
05
A couple: share the room, keep two meal budgets
A couple can split the biggest fixed expense: the room. Food, transit and tickets still need to cover two adults. The budget example uses ₩105,000 per night for one basic double or twin room and ₩60,000 per day for both travelers' food and drinks.
Midrange uses ₩220,000 per night for one room, ₩110,000 a day for food and drinks, and a larger activities allowance. The luxury example uses ₩800,000 per night for one room and ₩360,000 a day for dining. Sharing a transfer can help; sharing a room does not make two attraction tickets into one.
Check whether breakfast is included for both guests and whether the displayed room price includes taxes and service charges. A shared barbecue meal should be budgeted from the required portions, rice and drinks, not from one attractive-looking menu number.
| Expense | Budget | Midrange | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accommodation per night, all rooms | ₩105,000 | ₩220,000 | ₩800,000 |
| Accommodation, 6 nights | ₩630,000 | ₩1,320,000 | ₩4,800,000 |
| Food and drinks, 7 days | ₩420,000 | ₩770,000 | ₩2,520,000 |
| Local transport, 7 days | ₩84,000 | ₩140,000 | ₩630,000 |
| Activities, entire trip | ₩60,000 | ₩240,000 | ₩650,000 |
| Airport transfers, return included | ₩40,000 | ₩68,000 | ₩300,000 |

| 10% contingency | ₩131,400 | ₩263,800 | ₩906,000 |
| Total for the party | ₩1,445,400 | ₩2,901,800 | ₩9,966,000 |

06
A family: two adults and children aged seven and ten
Start with a room that accepts all four guests. A cheap double room with a maximum occupancy of two is not a family bargain. Our budget example uses ₩130,000 a night for a confirmed four-person room, with ₩100,000 a day for the family's meals, drinks and snacks. It favors free outings; the ₩80,000 activities allowance does not include a full-price Lotte World day.
The midrange example allows ₩350,000 a night for a family room or two modest rooms and ₩180,000 a day for food and drinks. Its ₩400,000 weekly activities allowance can cover one Lotte World Universal Pass day: two adults at ₩67,000 plus two children at ₩50,000 totals ₩234,000, leaving ₩166,000 for other outings. Food, transport and paid extras at the park remain separate.
Luxury uses two rooms at an assumed ₩700,000 each per night, a ₩500,000 daily dining allowance and a larger transport and activities budget. A suite or family offer may work better, but compare the complete quote. Connecting rooms should be confirmed with the hotel; proximity on the booking page is not a guarantee.
Children do not automatically cost half an adult. Transport, attractions, breakfasts and extra beds use different age rules. These examples do not apply unchanged to toddlers or teenagers. Budget transfers assume public transport; midrange allows a mixture of buses or quoted car travel. A family with large suitcases may need a larger airport vehicle, and that can change the allowance.
| Expense | Budget | Midrange | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accommodation per night, all rooms | ₩130,000 | ₩350,000 | ₩1,400,000 |
| Accommodation, 6 nights | ₩780,000 | ₩2,100,000 | ₩8,400,000 |
| Food and drinks, 7 days | ₩700,000 | ₩1,260,000 | ₩3,500,000 |
| Local transport, 7 days | ₩126,000 | ₩245,000 | ₩980,000 |
| Activities, entire trip | ₩80,000 | ₩400,000 | ₩900,000 |
| Airport transfers, return included | ₩60,000 | ₩120,000 | ₩400,000 |
| Data, laundry and small extras | ₩100,000 | ₩140,000 | ₩200,000 |
| Subtotal | ₩1,846,000 | ₩4,265,000 | ₩14,380,000 |
| 10% contingency | ₩184,600 | ₩426,500 | ₩1,438,000 |
| Total for the party | ₩2,030,600 | ₩4,691,500 | ₩15,818,000 |

Meals: plan the day, not just the cheapest dish
For planning, allow roughly ₩4,000–₩7,000 for a simple roll or snack meal, ₩10,000–₩15,000 for an everyday sit-down meal, and ₩25,000–₩45,000 per adult for a more substantial dinner. These are editorial spending envelopes, not verified October menu ranges. Check the restaurant you intend to use, especially for meat, seafood and premium neighborhoods.
A ₩30,000 food day might mean a ₩5,000 breakfast, ₩10,000 lunch, ₩12,000 dinner and ₩3,000 for a drink or snack. A ₩55,000 day gives you more room for a café and a larger dinner. These are allocations you can adjust, not promised menus at those exact prices.
For children, allow for breakfast, familiar backup food and snacks rather than assuming every shared dish will be enough. For luxury dining, price your specific reservations individually; one tasting menu can use much of a day's food budget. If breakfast is prepaid in the room rate, remove the duplicate food allowance.

08
The expenses that quietly change the total
Count hotel nights separately from travel days. Then add airport transfers in both directions, data for the phones that need it, laundry, ticketed experiences and any bags you will store. The small-extras figures here are allowances, not quotes for a particular SIM plan.
Keep flights, travel insurance, passport-dependent entry costs, shopping, beauty treatments, concert tickets and intercity journeys outside the base total until you have actual prices. A ₩1,000,000 shopping plan remains ₩1,000,000 however cheaply you eat lunch.
The 10% buffer helps with small changes; it cannot make an unusually expensive room affordable. Compare the full stay total on your dates, with all four family members entered where relevant. Weekends, public holidays and major events can move the accommodation figure substantially. Keep amounts in won until payment so exchange-rate changes do not hide the underlying cost.
09
Use Seoul as a baseline for the rest of Korea
Seoul is the reference for this guide. Other cities may offer lower room prices or more inexpensive neighborhood meals, but do not apply a blanket discount. A beach resort, island stay or festival weekend can cost more than a simple Seoul hotel.
Changing cities adds train or bus tickets, station transfers and sometimes luggage storage. Compare the whole itinerary before deciding that a cheaper room makes the regional trip cheaper overall. Keep the same budget headings and replace each city's accommodation and transport figures with quotes for your route.
