Seven days is enough for Seoul and Busan if you stop asking every afternoon to do three jobs. Use two bases, one KTX transfer and neighborhoods that belong together. There is room for palaces, proper lunches and the coast, with arrival and departure days kept realistic. Start with the shape of the week here, then expand the companion plan for the daily decisions.
01
Day one: arrive and establish your radius
Make day one a small-radius day: reach your Seoul hotel, check in and keep the evening within a 15-minute walk. Buy or top up a transport card, find breakfast, and save the nearest station entrance in your map app. A short neighborhood meal and early sleep are more valuable than a cross-city attraction after a long flight.
If you arrive in the morning, leave luggage and add one gentle outdoor loop, such as Cheonggyecheon or a nearby market. Avoid a prepaid evening show unless your arrival time and jet lag are predictable.
02
Days two and three: royal Seoul, then Seochon
Give day two a coherent patch of Seoul: Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon or Insadong, then an evening in Jongno. Check palace closing days before assigning the date. Choose one major palace and explore it properly rather than treating every gate as a separate stop.
On day three, move west into Seochon, eat lunch there, and continue to Suseongdong Valley or an Inwangsan viewpoint. This creates a readable transition from royal history to a living neighborhood and mountain edge. Keep the evening flexible for a performance or a simple dinner.
03
Day four: choose contemporary Seoul
Choose one modern cluster for day four; the others can wait for the next visit. Hongdae, Yeonnam, and Mangwon suit street life, independent shops, and a later evening. Seongsu and Seoul Forest suit design, cafés, and pop-ups. Gangnam and Jamsil suit large-scale shopping, architecture, and entertainment.
Do not combine all three sides of the city. Add a museum or indoor stop if the weather is poor, and use the final Seoul evening for the meal you did not want to rush earlier. Pack before bed so the next morning stays calm.
04
Day five: KTX to Busan and old downtown
On day five, take a morning KTX from the correct Seoul station and arrive 20–30 minutes early for your first journey. Store luggage or check in, then keep the afternoon around Busan Station, Nampo, Jagalchi, and the harbor. This avoids a long east-west transfer immediately after the train.
Eat in old downtown and watch the city change after dark. Add Gamcheon only if you arrived early and want a hillier half-day; otherwise, the market and waterfront are enough.
05
Days six and seven: coast, then a clean exit
Give day six to Haeundae, Dongbaekseom and Gwangalli, adding an eastern excursion such as Haedong Yonggungsa only if the day has room. Start early at the beach, allow a slow lunch, and finish where you want to see the bridge lights rather than racing back and forth.
On day seven, match the plan to your departure. For an evening flight from Gimhae, keep a short Busan morning and store bags. For a flight from Incheon, consider returning to Seoul the previous evening or leaving a large safety margin. If Busan feels too ambitious, spend all seven days in Seoul with one day trip; depth is a legitimate itinerary choice.
